National Land Cover Database Shrubland Products

NLCD Shrubland

The USGS in collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management and other MRLC partners is producing additional NLCD products for Western U.S. shrubland areas. This suite of products is produced as nine components, with component values representing the proportion (fractional vegetation) of each 30 m pixel. There are four primary components of percent shrub, percent herbaceous, percent bare ground, and percent litter, three secondary components (representing a subset of a primary component), and two height components (shrub height and sagebrush height). Two secondary components including percent sagebrush and percent big sagebrush are nested within percent shrub and one secondary component of percent annual herbaceous is nested within percent annual herbaceous.

Component products are designed to be used individually or combined together to support a broad variety of applications. Provisional Great Basin shrubland products are now available for download and are based on nominal years 2013/2014 imagery. Future shrubland products are scheduled for mapping across other regions of the Western U.S. and will be made available for download upon completion.
