NOAA's Office for Coastal Management is responsible for mapping and monitoring land cover in the coastal areas of the U.S., through its Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP).  This data, available from NOAA's Digital Coast website, is used in numerous applications and directly supports the production of NLCD products.   The primary difference from NLCD data is the presence of more detailed C-CAP wetland categories, and additional historic land cover dates.

NOAA also has a higher resolution land cover product line and produces operational monitoring data for Hawaii, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and other select project areas.  NOAA is currently working to increase the availability of such high resolution land cover for coastal areas, and envisions a future were all mapping efforts are conducted at this more detailed scale.
